On Monday, May 30, 2022, we will be honoring our Veterans as we celebrate Memorial Day. This day was originally called Decoration Day which dates to the early tradition of decorating graves with flowers, wreaths, and flags. On this day we remember and honor all those soldiers who have died serving our great country.
The act of serving our country is a truly selfless one, so it affects not only the soldiers who have served but also their families. Assisting Hands Home Care recognizes this, and so we have dedicated ourselves to honoring our Veterans by helping those who have served us. Veterans who have served in WWII, Korean War, and Vietnam War are among our senior population which means they may require additional assistance at home. This also means that some of the family members who are caring for Veterans may need respite care. Furthermore, Veterans who have served in any war and who have become disabled may also need assistance with activities of daily living. This is where Assisting Hands Rockford can provide help to those soldiers and their spouses.
In honoring our Veterans, Assisting Hands Rockford feels it is important those Veterans are made aware of what is available to them. After all, they have put their lives on the line to protect us so now it is our turn to help them by providing resources, and guidance to help with the process to seek approval through the Veteran Affairs (VA). There are two programs we can assist with – the VA Homemaker program and the Aid & Attendance Benefit Program. Ultimately, the VA will provide their decision of approval for the services.
VA Homemaker Program for Veterans
VA Homemaker & Home Health Aide Care is available for those who are isolated, and provides respite care for their family caregiver. It is also intended to help those who feel they need assistance at home so they feel safe. Here are some of the services that are available:
OUR IN-HOME CARE SERVICES INCLUDE:
Dressing, grooming, bathing
Fixing meals/eating
Light housekeeping
Medication reminders
Getting to appointments
Transfer assistance
Running errands
Respite care
Aid & Attendance Program for Veterans
This program qualifies a Veteran and/or their spouse or surviving spouse benefit funds up to $2,200 per month. These funds will enable you to pay for a Personal Caregiver to come to your home and assist you with cooking meals, transportation, grocery shopping, light house-keeping, getting dressed, etc. The goal of the Personal Caregiver is to help those in need with difficult tasks and to reduce their risk of falling, keeping them safe and at home instead of in a nursing home or a hospital. It can mean the difference between being in a facility with little independence and maintaining your independence at home.
