We’re combining forces, bringing awareness to veteran suicide: the 5K Ruck March event on Saturday, May 18 at Peak Sports Club in Loves Park, IL, this event holds great significance in commemorating and advocating for the welfare of our veterans. Assisting Hands Rockford is a presenting sponsor of this special event, so we encourage all to participate.
A Symbolic Gesture
The 5K Ruck March is designed to be more than just a physical challenge. It serves as a powerful symbol of the weight carried by our veterans who succumb to suicide every day. Participants are encouraged to carry a 20 lb. weighted backpack or ruck, signifying the approximate number of veterans affected by suicide daily, so it is extra meaningful. This symbolic gesture aims to bring attention to the staggering impact of veteran suicide on individuals and communities.
The Rockford Vet Center is known for its community-based counseling services, so it is vital to the community. The organization offers various social and psychological support programs, including professional counseling for eligible veterans, service members, and their families. The 5K Ruck March raises awareness about the prevalence of veteran suicide, so it highlights the essential services provided by the center.
