The Rockford Vet Center hosted the 2nd annual Who Gives a Ruck? 5K raising veteran suicide awareness on May 18 at Peak Sports Club in Loves Park. The 5K, which was open to the community, brings awareness to Veteran suicide and the services provided to veterans and their families by the Vet Center.
Participants of this annual event are encouraged to take part in carrying a 20 lb. backpack or ruck during the 5K, symbolizing the 20 veterans who tragically lose their lives to suicide every day. Beyond the physical challenge, this symbolic gesture fosters a sense of empathy and purpose, urging individuals to actively contribute to the well-being of those who have served our nation.
The community’s enthusiastic participation in the 2nd Annual Who Gives a Ruck? 5K showed unwavering support for local veterans, emphasizing solidarity and gratitude for their sacrifices. Noteworthy sponsors like Assisting Hands Home Care and Peak Sports Club played a pivotal role in ensuring the success and impact of the event, further amplifying its reach and significance. The impact has been truly remarkable.
