Why Home Healthcare is a Growing Trend for Baby Boomers

April 18, 2023Assisting Hands

There are many reasons why home healthcare is a growing trend for Baby Boomers. As life expectancy continues to rise and Baby Boomers grow older, so does the demand for Home Healthcare. This rise in home healthcare services has provided a new option for those who wish to receive quality care from the comfort of their own homes. With its variety of benefits – ranging from more affordable costs compared to traditional hospital-based care, improved patient satisfaction ratings due to increased independence and safety measures – this mode of healthcare is increasingly becoming an attractive choice for many families. Here’s an inside look at what home healthcare entails and how it can help so that you can decide if it’s right for you or your elderly loved one.

Home healthcare is trending, according to a, April 2021 Forbes.com article The Future Of Healthcare Is Coming Home: Three Major Trends To Leverage For Startups.  A 2018 AARP survey of adults shows that 3 out of 4 adults age 50 and older want to stay in their homes and communities as they age. Baby Boomers are driving a significant and lasting shift in the age distribution of our country. Ten thousand Baby Boomers turn 65 years old every day, and by 2030, 18% of the U.S. population will be age 65 or older (compared to 13% today).

Dementia

Caring for a loved one with dementia poses many challenges for families and caregivers. People with dementia suffer from conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease, frontotemporal dementias, Lewy body disease, vascular dementias and other related diseases. These are progressive biological brain disorders that make it more and more difficult for them to remember things, think clearly, communicate, take care of themselves, and can even lead to personality changes.

Alzheimer’s

Caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s is an extremely challenging experience for many families. As Alzheimer’s disease progresses, the physical and mental demands on the family member providing care can gradually become overwhelming. Physical tasks like bathing, dressing, and toileting may require total assistance.

In Home Care is Often the Best Care

As we share why home healthcare is a growing trend for Baby Boomers, it has become preferred for those who need memory care as well. Many families prefer to keep their loved ones suffering from memory loss disorders at home. This is so that they can remain in familiar surroundings with less disruption in routines, resulting in reduced confusion.

At Assisting Hands, we have a good understanding of what you and your family are going through and we’re here to help. We are highly experienced and provide the support you need and the compassion you want for your loved one.
