Who we serve

In our Community Care Program we care for seniors who need just a little help each day with everyday tasks. Our visits are short—sometimes as quick as 15 minutes and rarely more than an hour. Because of this, our services tend to be more affordable than those of agencies that require longer visits. It’s a simple, cost-effective way for seniors to get the support they need.

How we serve them

Our short-visit model works especially well for seniors who are relatively independent and don’t require intensive care. Many of our clients are healthier than traditional home care clients. We assist with tasks like medication reminders, getting in and out of the shower safely, getting dressed, making breakfast, making the bed, doing laundry, and similar daily routines.

In our Community Care Program we don’t provide continence care, toileting, or help with transferring.

Who we hire

Because the care we provide is more about simple support, we don’t require our caregivers to have extensive caregiving experience. Instead, we look for people who bring compassion, great communication, professionalism, and reliability to the role. If you have those qualities, we’ll make sure you’re trained in the caregiving skills needed to succeed.

This is a great opportunity if you’re looking to work just a few hours a week—most of our Community Caregivers work between 6 and 12 hours weekly.

What the job is like

  • Visit routes – You’ll be assigned a regular route of clients to visit. This helps you build real connections and understand the unique needs of each person you support.
  • Work schedule – We offer three weekly schedule options so you can choose what works best for your lifestyle: 2-days (Tue/Thu), 3-days (Mon/Wed/Fri), or 5-days (Mon–Fri). We don’t schedule visits on weekends or major holidays—so no need to worry about being called in during those times.
  • Shift length – Visits happen back-to-back between 8:30 AM and 1:00 PM. This means your workday is compact—you go straight from one client to the next. You’ll clock in at your first visit and clock out after your last. Routes usually start small and grow over time, but most clients stay with us for a while, which means your schedule becomes stable. A full route usually takes 3–4 hours to complete.
  • Location – We keep things local! Routes are assigned close to home, typically within 15 minutes. That means shorter drives and the rewarding feeling of supporting seniors right in your own community.
  • Time off – We know life happens. Whether it’s a family trip, special event, or just a day to recharge, we’re flexible with time-off when you give us advance notice.
  • Emergencies – Sometimes things pop up unexpectedly—like a sick child, car trouble, or your own health. While we aim for consistency, we understand that life isn’t always predictable, and we’ll work through it together.
Caregiver Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Assisting Hands

Where is your service area?

We currently serve Fort Mill. As we continue to grow, our service area will grow as well!

What kind of training do you offer?

We offer online training through Assisting Hands University, which covers the essentials of being a caregiver. You’ll also have access to a video library and other learning tools to help you grow your skills.

Are pay increases available?

We regularly review our pay rates to stay competitive with the industry. In addition, our bonus program allows you to earn above-average pay based on your performance.

How are bonuses determined?

Each client visit has a set amount of time to complete the care tasks. If you complete your visits efficiently and your average time is less than the budgeted time, you’ll earn a bonus.

Do you pay mileage?

Yes! We pay $0.71 per mile for the distance driven between client visits. Mileage is not paid for your commute to your first visit or home from your last visit.

How often do caregivers get paid?

We follow a bi-weekly pay schedule—you’ll receive a paycheck every two weeks.

How long will it take to be assigned a visit route?

This varies depending on new client needs. Our goal is to get you on a route as soon as possible. While waiting, you may have opportunities to fill in for other caregivers who are taking time off.

What is your dress code?

We provide an Assisting Hands shirt for you to wear. Please pair it with black or gray pants and closed-toe shoes to maintain a professional appearance.

Can I take time off?

Yes – You are welcome to take short-term time off for vacations or personal needs. If you need a longer break, we can move you to our waitlist until you’re ready to return.

What if I unexpectedly need to stay home due to a sick family member or other reason?

We understand life happens! We ask all clients to have a backup plan in place for these kinds of situations, so you’re supported when unexpected events come up.

Let us know if you have more questions—we’re here to support you every step of the way!
