Some Moments That Matter are quiet, deeply personal blessings that happen far from the spotlight. This Thanksgiving, one of those moments happened in a cozy living room right here in our community, when a Veteran was able to come home from George H. Wahlen Veterans Home and spend the holiday surrounded by his family.<\/p>\n
This Veteran served our country in Vietnam and lost the use of his legs as a result of his service. He can no longer walk or stand, but his courage, dignity, and love for his family remain as strong as ever.<\/p>\n
Tim was honored to be there to help make it possible for him to come home.<\/p>\n

A Family\u2019s Wish for Thanksgiving<\/strong><\/p>\n In the weeks leading up to the holiday, this Veteran\u2019s wife, Cherrie, had a simple but powerful hope:<\/p>\n She wanted her husband home.<\/p>\n Even just for a couple of days. Even just for the holiday. She wanted him out of the care center, sitting in his favorite chair, hearing the familiar sounds of family in the kitchen and laughter in the background\u2014everything that makes Thanksgiving feel like Thanksgiving.<\/p>\n But she was also worried.<\/p>\n How would she safely help him in and out of his bed? Those fears are real, and they can be overwhelming. No family should have to choose between safety and special moments together.<\/p>\n Tim (and Lisa) Step In to Help<\/strong><\/p>\n Tim, our in-house VA advocate and co-owner of Assisting Hands Home Care, didn\u2019t hesitate when he learned what this family needed. As a Veteran himself, he understands how important it is to honor those who have served\u2014not just with words, but with actions.<\/p>\n Over Thanksgiving, Tim and Lisa came to the home to provide hands-on care and support so that this Veteran could safely spend two full days where he truly wanted to be: at home with his wife and family.<\/p>\n They helped with:<\/p>\n Because Tim and Lisa were there to handle the care needs, Cherrie didn\u2019t have to spend the holiday worrying about every movement or every \u201cwhat if.\u201d She could focus on what mattered most\u2014sharing time, conversation, and gratitude with her husband.<\/p>\n A Spouse\u2019s Thank-You<\/strong><\/p>\n After the holiday, Cherrie sent a beautiful message of thanks. With her permission, we\u2019re honored to share her words in this Moments That Matter<\/strong> story:<\/p>\n \u201cI would love to share a few words about Tim Brown and Lisa Brown with Assisted Hands and all the kind things they did to come and help me and my husband for Thanksgiving these last few days. He is currently a resident at George H. Wahlen Veterans home in Ogden and he was able to come home for two days for the holiday! He can’t walk or stand up due to the service he gave in Vietnam and I needed some caregiving help for him at our house.<\/p>\n Tim and Lisa came to my rescue and helped me so much getting him in the shower and taking care of him and his needs, they were so awesome and so kind and sweet and professional in serving him and I would highly recommend anyone who wants professionals in care giving to call them… you won’t be disappointed!!! Thank you.<\/p>\n Cherrie \ud83c\udf52\u201d<\/p>\n Her words mean more to us than any advertisement ever could.
