INTRODUCTION<\/strong>
\nMillions of America\u2019s senior citizens are veterans or surviving spouses of veterans. As these heroes age, home is where they want to spend their senior years, surrounded by their favorite people and familiar things.<\/p>\n

A little-known benefit from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), the Pension with Aid & Attendance<\/strong><\/em>, can help pay for this care at home. From December 1, 2025 through November 30, 2026, the most VA pays with Aid and Attendance is $29,093 a year for a veteran with no spouse or dependents, $34,488 for a veteran with a spouse or one dependent, and $18,697 for a surviving spouse with no dependents. VA pays the difference between that limit and countable income, and the cost of paid care at home can count as a medical expense that lowers countable income. This pension is available to wartime veterans and surviving spouses of veterans who meet VA’s rules for service, income, net worth, and care needs.<\/p>\n
