Senior In Home Care Experts: Hair Loss May Be Normal But Can Be Difficult For Women

April 21, 2016msoltisBlog

Senior in home care providers warn that this is nothing to panic over, however, significant loss or change may be a reason to consult with a physician.

Did you know that androgenic alopecia, otherwise known as balding, can begin at any age? Balding is a hereditary condition. As your mother and father grow older, the rate of their hair growth slows. Your dad may become what is known as a cue ball with a smooth dome and no hair. The situation for women tends to worsen after menopause, however for the majority of women, complete hair loss is not an issue. Hair thinning and fine texture are often the result.

Illnesses such as hypothyroidism and iron deficiencies may contribute to hair loss. Often hair loss is linked to medications taken to control the disease. Senior in home care providers recommend discussing the possibilities of these side effects and preparing your mom or dad with options should this result.  Although there are some hair products that are touted to help regrow or thicken the hair on your parent’s scalp, there is no scientific proof that these work. Psychologically they may help your mother or father adapt to the changes they are experiencing. Wigs and toupees are also a choice that senior in home care experts may suggest for your mom or dad if needed.
