{"id":7760,"date":"2022-05-21T17:52:51","date_gmt":"2022-05-21T17:52:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/assistinghands.com\/14\/?p=7760"},"modified":"2024-08-19T10:00:23","modified_gmt":"2024-08-19T10:00:23","slug":"home-care-for-veterans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/assistinghands.com\/14\/florida\/fortmyers\/blog\/home-care-for-veterans\/","title":{"rendered":"Home Care for Veterans"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you know someone who is a Veteran and is struggling to maintain their independence, there may be a VA program available to help them.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.va.gov\/geriatrics\/pages\/Homemaker_and_Home_Health_Aide_Care.asp\">The Homemaker and Home Health Aide Program<\/a> through the VA helps to provides. home care for Veterans<span style=\"font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, 'Segoe UI', Roboto, Oxygen-Sans, Ubuntu, Cantarell, 'Helvetica Neue', sans-serif\">.\u00a0 These programs will send a caregiver to the Veteran&#8217;s home on a regular basis to help with personal care or homemaking assistance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Typically in order to qualify for these programs, you would need to meet the following basic requirements:<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>Wartime Veteran<\/li>\n<li>Served at least 90 days of Active Duty<\/li>\n<li>Served at least one day during a war period<\/li>\n<li>Honorable discharge<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Veteran must be an established patient with the VA, and must need assistance with at least one Activity of Daily Living (ADL)<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>Eating<\/li>\n<li>Dressing<\/li>\n<li>Bathing<\/li>\n<li>Bathroom Assistance\n<div id=\"attachment_7762\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-7762\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-7762\" src=\"https:\/\/assistinghands.com\/14\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/37\/2022\/05\/E_iStock-579255190-2-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"Veteran's may qualify for free home care!\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/assistinghands.com\/14\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/37\/2022\/05\/E_iStock-579255190-2-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/assistinghands.com\/14\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/37\/2022\/05\/E_iStock-579255190-2-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/assistinghands.com\/14\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/37\/2022\/05\/E_iStock-579255190-2-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/assistinghands.com\/14\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/37\/2022\/05\/E_iStock-579255190-2-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/assistinghands.com\/14\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/37\/2022\/05\/E_iStock-579255190-2-2048x1365.jpg 2048w, https:\/\/assistinghands.com\/14\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/37\/2022\/05\/E_iStock-579255190-2-600x400.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-7762\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Veterans may qualify for free home care!<\/p><\/div><\/li>\n<li>Ambulation (safe movement)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If a physician feels the patient requires such assistance, they will be referred to a VA social worker, who can authorize services.\u00a0 At that point, the Veteran is free to choose any home care provider that is <a href=\"https:\/\/assistinghands.com\/14\/florida\/fortmyers\/services\/veterans-care\/\">VA approved<\/a>, such as Assisting Hands.
