{"id":7770,"date":"2022-06-04T14:49:57","date_gmt":"2022-06-04T14:49:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/assistinghands.com\/14\/?p=7770"},"modified":"2024-10-29T10:08:22","modified_gmt":"2024-10-29T10:08:22","slug":"how-to-activate-a-long-term-care-policy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/assistinghands.com\/14\/florida\/fortmyers\/blog\/how-to-activate-a-long-term-care-policy\/","title":{"rendered":"How to Activate a Long Term Care Policy to Help Pay for Home Care"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Did you know that long term care policies are not just for nursing home coverage? \u00a0They can also be used to <a href=\"https:\/\/assistinghands.com\/14\/florida\/fortmyers\/blog\/long-term-senior-care-pay\/\">help pay for home care costs as well!<\/a> \u00a0If you aren&#8217;t sure where to start to activate your policy, below is a great guide to assist you with activating your long term care policy!<\/p>\n<h2>To Start the Claim Process<\/h2>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>Start the process by contacting your long term care insurance company to determine what you need to start a claim.\u00a0 Often this includes a nurse assessment.\u00a0 This is sometimes from the insurance company or the Home Care Agency to ensure you are eligible for benefits\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>Long term care policies generally require that assistance is needed with a minimum number (usually 2 or 3) of ADL\u2019s (Activities of daily living), or have significant cognitive impairment such as dementia requiring supervision.\u00a0 The following are the most common:\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>Bathing (personal hygiene, grooming, could be as simple as a stand by shower to ensure you don&#8217;t fall)<\/li>\n<li>Dressing<\/li>\n<li>Transferring and Ambulation (or help with safe movement)<\/li>\n<li>Toileting (activities related to using the restroom \u2013 it could be just assisting them to restroom or help with depends)<\/li>\n<li>Eating (feeding)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Know What You Qualify For<\/h2>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>In addition to starting the claim and being qualified, you will want to know what benefits you qualify for.\u00a0 Policies are all different but they will typically have 3 things to focus on:\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>A daily dollar limit (most common), or daily hours limit (depending on policy).\u00a0 This is not always the amount that is stated on your policy documents, and can often be much more, thanks to an inflation rider<\/li>\n<li>An inflator &#8211;
