The goal was to provide information for professionals who work with these patients on a daily basis to help them remain safely in their own home. A few modifications such as grab bars, improved hallway lighting, and most importantly, LOTS of patience from the caregiver and their families help make home life easier and safer!<\/p>\n<h2>About Parkinson\u2019s Disease<\/h2>\n<p>Parkinson\u2019s is a neurologically degenerative disease that affects over 1 million American seniors today. It starts out slow, but progresses over time to affect physical movements and cognitive abilities. Symptoms can include tremors, shakiness, stiff muscles, difficulties speaking, and a mask-like facial expression.<\/p>\n<p>While there is currently no cure for Parkinson\u2019s Disease, caregivers can work with these individuals to ease their frustration. Exercise and medication are most important elements to slowing progress and minimizing symptoms. Assisting Hands Caregivers help by providing personal care, meal preparation, medication reminders, and transportation to doctor\u2019s appointments or exercise classes.\u00a0 Families should never be afraid to ask for help caring for someone with Parkinson\u2019s Disease.
