Thank you for having us, because we love serving you.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In addition to keeping you happy, our top priority is keeping everyone safe. With this particular threat to our communities, protecting ourselves IS protecting others. Here is some information on how everyone can help prevent the spread of COVID-19 and keep everyone in our Assisting Hands family safe.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Social Distancing<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">You may be tired of hearing about it, but it\u2019s true! It is believed that the virus is mostly spread person to person. Social distancing is the #1 way to avoid becoming infected and\/or spreading the virus.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Do not meet with anymore or enter public places unless necessary. Limit your chances of exposure as much as possible. If you go to the grocery store once in two weeks instead of twice you are cutting your potential for exposure in half!\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\">If you must go into public places, say 6 feet away from other people<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Review of Hand Hygiene<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">After social distancing, your next basic line of defense against COVID-19 is hand washing. Here are a few more pointers to remember, but you can review a breakdown of handwashing and other guidelines in our other blog <a href=\"http:\/\/assistinghands.com\/2\/illinois\/arlingtonheights\/blog\/covid-19-update-caregivers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Guidelines for Caregivers<\/a>:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Wash your hands as soon as you enter your home or a client\u2019s home.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Avoid touching your face or your client\u2019s face unless you have just washed your hands.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>As you are washing your hands more frequently, be aware that your hands are more likely to get dry and cracked, which can make you more vulnerable to germs on your hands!<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Make sure you are using lotion on your hands when needed to prevent broken skin.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">An Overview of Personal Protective Equipment<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">As an additional update to our previous list of guidelines <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">based on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CDC<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">WHO<\/a> recommendations, the CDC is currently recommending that the public wear masks in public places. We are all being introduced more to the use of PPE, or Personal Protective Equipment, and here is some information on its proper use.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Masks<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-5347 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/assistinghands.com\/2\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2020\/04\/Homemade-Mickey-Mouse-Masks.jpg\" alt=\"Homemade Mickey Mouse Masks\" width=\"430\" height=\"323\" srcset=\"https:\/\/assistinghands.com\/2\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2020\/04\/Homemade-Mickey-Mouse-Masks.jpg 2048w, https:\/\/assistinghands.com\/2\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2020\/04\/Homemade-Mickey-Mouse-Masks-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/assistinghands.com\/2\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2020\/04\/Homemade-Mickey-Mouse-Masks-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/assistinghands.com\/2\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2020\/04\/Homemade-Mickey-Mouse-Masks-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/assistinghands.com\/2\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2020\/04\/Homemade-Mickey-Mouse-Masks-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/assistinghands.com\/2\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2020\/04\/Homemade-Mickey-Mouse-Masks-600x450.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 430px) 100vw, 430px\" \/><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">It is currently believed that the virus is mostly spread person-to-person from respiratory droplets when someone coughs, sneezes, or talks. The CDC has therefore started to recommend that everyone wears a cloth mask when in public places, primarily to minimize the amount of respiratory droplets we are releasing into the air.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">It is possible that as many as 25% of cases of Coronavirus have no symptoms but could easily spread the virus to others. That is why it is so important that everyone follows CDC guidelines to try to minimize the spread of the virus.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Please remember that wearing a mask is one preventative measure to minimize risk of spreading your own respiratory droplets, but it does not completely protect you from exposure to COVID-19.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Always maintain social distancing guidelines even when wearing a mask.<\/b><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">It\u2019s also important to wear and handle your mask properly. Here\u2019s how to do it:\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Wash your hands before touching your mask.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Wash your hands after removing your mask.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Handle the mask by the ear loops, or the homemade straps. The outside of the mask is essentially your germ filter&#8230;try not to touch it!<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Wash your cloth masks as soon as you take them off, between each use.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Don\u2019t touch your mask while you are wearing it! Taking your mask on and off, or fidgeting with it while you are wearing it will spread any germs that may be on it.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">At Assisting Hands, we have some medical masks and homemade cloth masks for our caregivers to use to help protect our caregivers and clients when necessary. But it is recommended that everyone wear a homemade mask when going out in public. You can find a wealth of information online as to how to easily make a homemade mask!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Here is some information from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/prevent-getting-sick\/diy-cloth-face-coverings.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CDC on homemade masks<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Gloves<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Gloves are generally used by healthcare workers when exposed to germs and\/or bodily fluids and they are immediately disposed of. Caregivers should use gloves following these guidelines:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Gloves should be worn by caregivers when providing personal care.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Gloves should be removed properly (without contact with hands) and should be immediately disposed of after personal care.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Caregivers should wash their hands after removing gloves.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">While wearing gloves, it is important to remember that <\/span><b>gloves can very easily transmit the virus and other germs from one surface to another. Gloves don\u2019t kill germs, they just keep them off of your hands!\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If you are wearing gloves, never touch your face.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If you are wearing gloves and you touch other surfaces, those surfaces need to be disinfected.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Always wash your hands after removing gloves.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The CDC recommends frequent hand washing and disinfecting of frequently touched surfaces for daily activities.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">And one little tip: Remember to disinfect your phone!<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Resources<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The CDC Website to stay up to date on current guidelines for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-nCoV\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">protection from COVID-19<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Free Training Courses on PPE and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.relias.com\/topic\/coronavirus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">other COVID-19 related topics<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Contact Us<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Have questions about your <a href=\"http:\/\/assistinghands.com\/2\/illinois\/arlingtonheights\/\">home care service<\/a> with Assisting Hands in Arlington Heights?
