Now you\u2019re probably thinking, \u201cWhat does a delicious club sandwich have to do with in-home assistance and senior home care?\u201d I\u2019m glad you asked.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">You\u2019ve no doubt heard the term \u201cMillennial\u201d (in fact, you\u2019re probably sick of hearing it); it refers to the generation born between the early 1980s and 2000s. There\u2019s another generational term that you may not be as familiar with: the \u201cSandwich Generation.\u201d Added to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.merriam-webster.com\/dictionary\/sandwich+generation\"><span class=\"s2\">Webster\u2019s Dictionary<\/span><\/a> in 2006, the Sandwich Generation is defined as \u201ca generation of people who are caring for their aging parents while supporting their own children.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">According to research from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pewsocialtrends.org\/2013\/01\/30\/the-sandwich-generation\/\"><span class=\"s2\">Pew Research Center<\/span><\/a>, 47 percent of adults in their 40s and 50s have a parent age 65 or older and are either raising a young child or financially supporting a grown (18 years or older) child. About 15 percent of middle-aged adults are providing financial support to both an aging parent and a child, and among all adults with at least one parent age 65 or older, 30 percent say their parent or parents need help to handle their affairs or care for themselves.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">There\u2019s a pretty good chance you\u2019re sandwiched in the middle of providing for your own children and your parents. Much like that delicious club sandwich earlier, it might be a little difficult to hold together without all the meat and veggies sliding out the back.
