October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month<\/strong><\/h1>\n

Breast cancer awareness month rolls around every October. Most of the uninitiated know this because NFL teams start sporting pink socks<\/a> and pink ribbons start popping up everywhere. Many that have been touched personally by breast cancer are more than intimately aware of the devastation and pain that breast cancer can bring. It is the second leading cancer to cause death among women only behind skin cancer.<\/p>\n

So if you are only a casual observer, what is there to know?<\/p>\n

According to the American Cancer Society<\/a>, the key to surviving the disease is early detection.<\/a> When found sooner rather than later, there are stories of survival.<\/p>\n

The ACS also offers other insightful tidbits on treatment<\/a>, research<\/a> and how you can join the fight<\/a> against the deadly disease on their website<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Assisting Hands Home Care owner Terri Robbins of Houston knows first hand how breast cancer can change an entire family\u2019s collective life.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy family and I would work in shifts to provide care for our dying mother,\u201d said Robbins. \u201cNothing about it was easy on any of us. We knew she was more comfortable at home and that is where we kept her for as long as we could.\u201d<\/p>\n
