PAS agency numbers are increasing.<\/p><\/div>\n

Personal assistance service (PAS) and home health care differences were the topic of last month’s post<\/a>. This month we take a closer look at the two options including actionable steps in your due diligence process because the number of PAS agencies is growing at an unbelievable rate.<\/p>\n

The good news is the State of Texas<\/a> requires personal assistance service agencies to meet the same stringent rules under which traditional home health agencies operate including hiring trained and bonded employees, the use of care plans, and periodic inspections by the state health department. An additional benefit is that many agencies are part of a national franchise system<\/a>, giving an added benefit of corporate oversight and structure for the agencies.<\/p>\n

Personal Assistance Service or Home Health, Do Your Due Diligence<\/h2>\n

Even with the added security of an established agency, one must still do their due diligence in researching who they will have care for their loved one.\u00a0 When inquiring about an agency, ask whether it is a personal assistance service or home health agency. Also, as a guide, the following are some basic questions to ask:<\/p>\n

  • What are hiring requirements for your caregivers and how are they trained?<\/li>\n
  • Can your caregivers take the client on errands, i.e., doctor visits, beauty salon, grocery shopping?<\/li>\n
  • Is there a charge for initial consultation?<\/li>\n
  • Are there a minimum number of hours for service?<\/li>\n
  • Can we choose\/interview the caregiver?<\/li>\n
  • Do we need to sign a long term contract for services?<\/li>\n
  • What area do you service and what services do you provide?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    The search for an agency to provide help can be an emotionally taxing and stressful journey.\u00a0 Remember to take your time, make decisions based on thorough investigation, and be sure to accept help and support from friends and family in caring for your loved one while you establish a solid routine with that agency.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
