Activities of Daily Living (ADLs)
Activities of daily living (ADLs) are basic self-care tasks that people must be able to complete to live a healthy, independent life. These activities include eating, restroom use, dressing, and personal hygiene activities like oral care and bathing.
Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADLs)
Instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs) are considered secondary to ADLs but are still necessary to live an independent lifestyle. Those who suffer from illnesses or chronic conditions are evaluated on their ability to perform IADLs to assess their condition and ability to care for themselves.
