A Little Boca History
Many people in South Florida refer to Boca Raton as simply “Boca”. Boca Raton Fl was officially incorporated in 1925 as “Boca Raton”. Addison Mizner decided to make Boca Raton Fl a resort town way back in the ’20s. The Boca area used to be a farming area. Through the years Boca had been used as an Air Force Base during World War 2. IBM purchased a large piece of land in the area and built a manufacturing plant. There has been an expansion of Boca into the west. The suburbs take up the western part of the city towards the everglades. Boca has a lot of older citizens as many people from New York and the New England Area have bought seconds homes in the area. Many people from up north retire in Boca. Boca is also the home of Florida Atlantic University.
Entertainment
The Mizner Park Cultural Center is located near US 1 in downtown Boca. It is of course named after Addison Mizner. You can see many different types of acts at this cultural center. The list of performers and performances could be considered B and C acts with occasional big headliners. You can see comedians, crooners, musical acts, and complete shows. Boca also has many annual events. There are festivals, yoga, symphonies, and many different events to attend and enjoy in the area.
Fabulous Beaches
Of course, there has always been a draw to the beautiful beaches along the barrier island of Boca. There is an intercoastal in between the mainland Boca and the barrier island with the beautiful beaches everybody is welcome to tan and swim at. The Gumbo Limbo Nature Center and walk is a unique part of Boca. The Gumbo Limbo tree is a gorgeous native Florida tree. The center has live turtles to learn about and much native fish in tanks. The nature trail and watchtower are a perfect afternoon experience. The ocean changes all the time off the coast of the beaches of Boca. You can swim in crystal clear waters one day and have churned up water with high waves another day. This makes the beaches of Boca always a fun experience.
Boca is a fabulous place to visit or live. There are so many fun events to attend. There are plenty of beautiful homes to choose from if you are looking for a place to retire or live. Boca is also situated in the perfect spot to drive up to West Palm Beach when you want that scene or you can shoot down to South Beach, Miami for a fun time. You will never be bored in Boca.
