Though we both focus on measurements such as ROM and strength. OT\u2019s tend to focus on one\u2019s ability to perform ADL\u2019s to their maximal functional independence<\/p>\n<h2>What is Big Therapy for PD ?<\/h2>\n<p>LSVT BIG trains people with Parkinson disease (PD) to use their body more normally.\u00a0 People living with PD or other neurological conditions often move differently, with gestures and actions that become smaller and slower. They may have trouble with getting around, getting dressed and with other activities of daily living. LSVT BIG effectively trains improved movements for any activity, whether \u201csmall<u>\u00a0<\/u>motor\u201d tasks like buttoning a shirt or \u201clarge motor\u201d tasks like getting up from sofa or chair or maintaining balance while walking. The treatment improves walking, self-care and other tasks by helping people \u201crecalibrate\u201d how they perceive their movements with what others actually see. It also teaches them how and when to apply extra effort to produce bigger motions \u2013 more like the movements of everyone around them.<\/p>\n<h2>How is LSVT BIG implemented?<\/h2>\n<p>LSVT BIG treatment is delivered one-on-one and is tailored to each person\u2019s own abilities and goals\u00a0so\u00a0that they work towards what&#8217;s meaningful to them.<\/p>\n<p>It requires (and can only be given by) an LSVT BIG Certified Clinician as part of prescribed physical or occupational therapy. job-related tasks.\u00a0 LSVT BIG treatments are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>One-hour sessions<\/li>\n<li>One on One<\/li>\n<li>Four sessions per week<\/li>\n<li>Four weeks in a row<\/li>\n<li>Daily homework and carryover exercises with a certified LSVT BIG clinician<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Is there a certain level of Parkinson\u2019s that would not benefit?<\/h2>\n<p>Research shows that all levels of Parkinson\u2019s could benefit from LSVT BIG. The earlier the involvement and instruction of these exercises the better. These exercises can be implemented daily throughout the progression of this disease. There are a variety of modifications and adaptions that can be made to the exercises for those who are more involved. We also do stress care-giver education for the best home carry over.<\/p>\n<h2>How do I know if I or, my loved one would benefit from LSVT?<\/h2>\n<p>The best thing is to call your local LSVT BIG provider.
