Companion Care

hold-hands

Assisting Hands Home Care is there to assist and provide companionship when you cannot be. You have a lot going on between your job and family demands, but you still try to call, visit, attend doctor appointments, and oversee household repairs. You worry that your loved one is home alone and feeling lonely. This is one of the biggest stress factors affecting adult caregivers.

Whether you live in Montgomery County MD or Fairfax County VA, Assisting Hands Home Care’s companions help relieve family stress and also provide your loved one with the companionship and human interaction necessary for both physical and mental health. Our skilled caregivers work to engage both the mind and the spirit and encourage participation in favorite pastimes and hobbies. Here are just some of the many activities that our caregivers provide to your loved ones.

One of the first things you may want to do is decide what kind of care you or your loved one may need? When defining types of care, you may have heard the words activities of daily living and the instrumental activities of daily living.

Simply, the activities of daily living are basic, routine tasks that most people can perform without assistance. These include items such as bathing, dressing, eating, and using the toilet. Assistance with the activities of daily living is called Personal Care.

The instrumental activities of daily living are also necessary activities that may require added steps. These include items such as cooking, driving, and house cleaning and maintenance. Assistance with the instrumental activities of daily living is called companion care.

A person’s ability (or inability) to adequately perform both groups of activities helps define the services needed to live safely and independently.
