January is Oatmeal Month – Best Recipes for Your Elderly Loved One

January 27, 2021Becky MoultrieBlog Posts, Caregivers in Largo FL

January is Oatmeal Month. Did you know that there are many health benefits of oatmeal? First of all, this is a great breakfast option that is low in sugar and salt. It is also high in protein and fiber. If you and caregivers are helping to care for your elderly loved one, you should encourage them to eat oatmeal regularly. It can help to prevent diabetes, curb hunger, promote heart health, boost energy, and much more. If your elderly loved one isn’t into oatmeal because they think it is too plain, there are many great recipes you and their caregivers can make them.

Banana Nut Oatmeal

This oatmeal is made ready to eat. If you are looking for an oatmeal recipe for your elderly loved one that is a bit fruity, this would be a great option. The ingredients that you will need to make this oatmeal for your elderly loved one include the following:

  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp. walnuts (chopped)
  • 1 banana (sliced)
  • 1 cup of water
  • ½ cup of rolled oats

For this recipe, you will mix the oats into 1 cup of water. You will put these into the microwave for 3 minutes (maximum). You will then put the cinnamon, walnuts, and banana in it. These can be mixed in or just placed on top.

Cranberry Pear Oatmeal

Another oatmeal recipe that is made ready to eat is called Cranberry Pear Oatmeal. If your elderly loved one liked cranberries, this recipe is a great breakfast for them. The ingredients that you will need to make this recipe for your elderly loved one include the following:

  • ½ tsp. of salt
  • ¾ cup of apple cider
  • ¾ cup of water
  • 1 cup of rolled oats (organic)
  • ½ cup of diced pears
  • ½ tsp. of ground cinnamon
  • ¼ cup of sweetened cranberries (dried)
  • ¼ tsp. of vanilla extract
  • ¼ cup of milk (fat-free)
  • ¼ cup of pecans (chopped and toasted)

To make this recipe for your elderly loved one, you will start by bringing the apple cider and water to a boil on the stove. Then, you will mix in the salt and the oats. Turn the heat down to low. You will cook this for 3 more minutes while stirring it occasionally. After this, you can add in the vanilla, cinnamon, cranberries, and pear. Stir it all together gently and cook for 3 more minutes. Finally, you will stir the milk and pecans in.

Conclusion

These are some excellent oatmeal options for your elderly loved one. If your elderly loved one needs a natural way to improve their overall health, boost their energy, and just a way to eat healthier, eating oatmeal can help a great deal.
