It’s been an amazing Holiday season at Assisting Hands. We kicked off the season with our Annual Elves for Elders Party. The outpouring and support from the community was immense.
Elves for Elders is a project coordinated by Better Living for Senior, a consortium of senior care providers and related business. These professionals give back to the community every day by providing education and resources to our senior and disabled community. Elves holds a special place in many hearts as the program ensures that the poorest of our senior receive a number of gifts for Christmas.
In 2016, over 700 elders were identified and given the opportunity to ask for items that they needed and could not afford. From that list, gift tags were created and distributed across Pinellas County thru senior care offices, attorneys and several Big Lots Stores. And then the gifts came rolling in!
On November 30th, we hosted our collection party. Over 35 tags were distributed out of our office. And that many tags, plus more from other pick up locations, came in that evening. In addition, bags and bags of toiletries and other niceties were brought. Santa was on hand to thank and great the guest and took several pictures.
From the bottom of our hearts, we thank all who helped make this an amazing venture. We are truly blessed to work in such an amazing community of love and compassion. May you all have a blessed Christmas season.
