When is it Time for a Skilled Caregiver to Help Your Senior?

May 28, 2021Becky MoultrieBlog Posts

Skilled caregivers are able to offer specific help to your elderly family member that might be difficult for you or other family members to offer to her. These are just some of the situations that might require skilled assistance.

She’s Having Trouble Bathing or Showering

When it becomes difficult for your senior to shower or to bathe on her own, that might be more than you can help her to do. Your senior may also be uncomfortable with a family member helping her with personal care tasks, making it all that much more difficult. A skilled caregiver can help her to handle these personal tasks while keeping her dignity intact.

She Has Mobility Issues

Mobility concerns can be scary, both for you and for your senior. Skilled caregivers are able to help your elderly family member to walk, to transfer from a wheelchair to her bed, and to manage a variety of other mobility concerns. They can even help you to learn how to do these things safely without injuring yourself or your senior.

She’s Battling Chronic Health Issues

Health issues that your senior may have had under control in the past could be too much now. Things like high blood pressure or high blood sugar levels can become out of control if your elderly family member is having a hard time with testing or with doing the things that keep her healthy. Having someone else there to assist with managing her needs can be crucial.

She Needs Help Getting out of Bed

As your senior’s health changes, she may have more difficulty getting out of bed on her own. This can be due to mobility concerns or due to pain and stiffness in her joints first thing in the morning. Having a skilled caregiver there to help her when she gets up can ensure that she’s safe and that she’s able to get out of bed.

She’s Having Trouble Following a Prescribed Diet

Part of what might have helped your senior to stay healthy in the past could have been adherence to a specific diet. As she grows older and finds it more difficult to handle specific tasks, sticking with that prescribed diet may become impossible. Having a caregiver to assist with meals could be the key to helping her to regain some of her health.

The right types of assistance are absolutely vital to ensuring that your senior has what she needs when she needs it.
