Many communities offer transportation to homebound seniors. These services are run by volunteers that have seen a need and filled it. Nationwide services have also been developed. One such service that may be in your area is Drive a Senior. If your parent is fortunate to have public transportation in their area, many offer reduced rates for seniors.<\/p>\n

Meals<\/strong><\/p>\n

Another volunteer program, Meals on Wheels, is designed to provide meals to those that are housebound. No- to low-cost food, depending on your parent\u2019s needs, is delivered to their door by volunteers. For those who simply can\u2019t get out of their home due to mobility issues, there are a wealth of food delivery options available including Personal Chef to Go and MagicKitchen.<\/p>\n

Senior Community Centers<\/strong><\/p>\n

These centers are incredible resources for both the elderly and those that care for them. Their offerings are designed with senior citizens in mind and often include exercise classes, various art classes, introduction to tech classes, healthy eating advice as well as shared meals and outside social activities and events. If they don\u2019t offer specific services, they often know where to find them, whether it is support groups or support for caregivers.<\/p>\n

Area Agencies on Aging<\/strong><\/p>\n

This national service consists of approximately 620 local organizations that refer to themselves as the Area Agency on Aging or as the County Office on Aging. This is a federally funded program that provides various assistance depending on the location. These can include meals, caregiver training, transportation and a vast wealth of information.<\/p>\n

Elderly care providers can be an invaluable resource for your senior loved one,\u00a0helping them with the everyday activities of living.
