A properly installed grab bar should be able to hold up the weight of a full-grown adult.<\/p>\n<p>That means if the aging senior in your family slips when getting into or out of the tub or shower, holding onto this grab bar can help them regain their balance and avoid a devastating fall.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Potential Change #2: Improve lighting.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When light bulbs are out or certain lights are not turned on as evening approaches, it causes shadows to become more prevalent. If that happens, it could increase the risk of tripping and falling, especially for an aging senior is also dealing with vision-related problems.<\/p>\n<p>Consider installing better light bulbs, timers, or even remote switches so the senior can turn on and off lights in different rooms with the touch of a button, no matter where he or she is.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Potential Change #3: Consider a wheelchair ramp.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Even if the senior does not rely on a wheelchair or walker right now, a ramp can make it easier for them to get into and out of the house.
