Senior Care in South Pasadena FL: 2019 Starts Off with Some States Looking Into Ways to Help With Care Costs<\/p><\/div>\n

In many states, there are concerns over the cost of senior care services for aging men and women. As the number of Americans over the age of 65 increases, the demand of caring for parents often falls to the younger family members.<\/p>\n

There are cases where grandchildren are balancing college with family caregiving. Some adults have had to quit jobs to provide the care. It’s leading to a financial strain on families all over the country.<\/p>\n

It’s hard on families, and it’s hard on the seniors who need help but feel like burdens. Hawaii is one state that took strides to help with the cost of senior care. Others are starting to think about what happens in the years and decades to come.<\/p>\n

What Hawaii Did to Help<\/strong><\/p>\n

Hawaii launched the Kapuna Caregivers Program in 2018. Qualifying family caregivers get payments of up to $70 per day to help cover costs for senior care services like respite care, adult day programs, and home care. Funds are paid directly to the organizations family caregivers hire so that they don’t have to quit their jobs to provide around-the-clock care.<\/p>\n

What Other States Are Talking About<\/strong><\/p>\n

Representatives from Texas and New York teamed upon H.R. 7203. If passed, the law would enable senior citizens to claim life insurance funds early, without a tax penalty, and use those funds to pay for long-term care.<\/p>\n

Missouri has a plan in the works that would help senior citizens save money. The goal is to eliminate property taxes for homeowners. With extra cash in the bank, more seniors could afford to pay for the senior care services they need to age at home.<\/p>\n

Family members caring for a parent with Alzheimer’s are often unprepared for all they face. Meanwhile, Alzheimer’s disease continues to affect more and more families. In December 2018, a major Alzheimer’s act was approved by the House. Building Our Largest Dementia Infrastructure for Alzheimer’s Act (BOLD) is meant to help with Alzheimer’s research, support for family members, and training and education for caregivers.<\/p>\n

When your parents need senior care services, don’t let the cost keep you from investigating your options. You may find there are community and non-profit grants that help cover some of the cost of adult day programs, respite care, and other senior care services.
