She might be better off not knowing the truth in a particular situation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reasoning with the Truth Sometimes Doesn\u2019t Work<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Of course, the other thing to keep in mind is that there may be times in which telling your senior the truth doesn\u2019t go how you expect it to go at all. Your elderly family member might not believe you, no matter how much evidence you provide to back up what you\u2019re saying. If your senior is having cognitive problems, for instance, reasoning with her and using logic does not help.<\/p>\n<p><strong>You May Need to Follow Your Senior\u2019s Lead<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ultimately, whether you use the actual truth or therapeutic fibbing may depend on your senior\u2019s needs in that moment. You might need to follow her lead and go with what feels appropriate in that moment and given your elderly family member\u2019s situation.
