{"id":2073,"date":"2018-06-19T22:01:41","date_gmt":"2018-06-19T22:01:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/assistinghands.com\/44\/?p=2073"},"modified":"2021-05-28T23:20:17","modified_gmt":"2021-05-28T23:20:17","slug":"alzheimers-and-brain-awareness-month","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/assistinghands.com\/44\/texas\/westaustin\/blog\/alzheimers-and-brain-awareness-month\/","title":{"rendered":"Alzheimer&#8217;s and Brain Awareness Month"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 style=\"text-align: center\"><b>June is Alzheimer\u2019s and Brain Awareness Month<\/b><\/h1>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2074 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/assistinghands.com\/44\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/69\/2018\/06\/longest-day.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"269\" height=\"131\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Alzheimer\u2019s Disease is the 6<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">th<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> leading cause of death in the United States. \u00a0According to the Alzheimer\u2019s Association, deaths from this disease have increased by a staggering 123% in since the year 2000. \u00a0\u00a0Costs associated with Alzheimer\u2019s approach $277 billion per year. 16.1 million family and friends provide care to people with Alzheimer\u2019s and other dementias in the United States. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">No doubt about it. \u00a0The cold, hard facts about Alzheimer\u2019s Disease are sobering. \u00a0That\u2019s why the Alzheimer\u2019s Association has chosen June as the month to raise awareness of these statistics and work toward a world without Alzheimer\u2019s. \u00a0\u00a0On June 21, <\/span><b>The Longest Day,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> the summer solstice, there are a variety of events planned to raise awareness and funds for care and research. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Alzheimer\u2019s Association offers support for every stage of the disease. \u00a0Recently there has been an increased focus on early diagnosis and intervention. \u00a0Early diagnosis enables individuals to prepare legal, financial and end-of-life plans while they are still cognitively able to make decisions and share their wishes<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">As with other chronic diseases that don\u2019t yet have a cure, disease, Alzheimer\u2019s can take a toll on family members. \u00a0Because it is a progressive disease, the symptoms worsen over time and the person becomes more dependent on others for basic care. \u00a0\u00a085% of persons living with Alzheimer\u2019s disease have unpaid caregiver support from family and friends.
