Is Home Care Right For You?

January 30, 2020Blogsteuscher

In the senior care field there are many options. When the individual can stay home and out of a care center, it seems like that is the best option for their physical and mental well being. This form of home care involves having a personal caregiver that supports and helps with activities of daily living in the comfort of your own home. Common things that home care workers help with include: shopping, meal prep, light house cleaning, and companionship.

Non-medical Home Care might be right for you if…

You do not require substantial medical attention

They are not doctors. Which makes sense. Home care is great for individuals who are relatively healthy and do not require medical interventions. Professional caregivers are highly trained and go through rigorous screenings, but they are not licensed medical professionals. They can help remind them to take medications, but they do not help with rehabilitation, administer meds, or perform wound care.

You want to remain in your own home

Everybody wants to stay home. With in home care it actually makes you more free.

Non-medical home care provides assistance in everyday activities to make life as easy as possible for the elderly, while still allowing them to remain at home. Simple helps like straightening up the house, transportation, and grooming can greatly improve the quality of life of Senior Citizens. If you want to remain in your home and could benefit from some personal one-on-one support, home care might be a great option for you.

You want an affordable alternative

Cost is always a difficult subject when it comes to Senior care. Everyone has different ideas on how much something should cost. Home care is a very affordable option when compared to other services. According to a survey by Genworth Financial, the average cost of a nursing home is $77,745 per year. Home care is much less expensive and offers the flexibility of an hourly rate. You can get the amount of help you need each day based on your unique circumstances. Many people require less than 4 hours per week of services, while others need several hours each day.

You want to keep your independence

Are you getting more or less independence. Receiving home care does not mean that you lose your independence. It is quite the opposite, in fact. The goal of home care is to help you stay at home comfortably for as long as possible. Home care workers are excellent at lending a hand when needed, while also letting the individual guide the amount of help they would like. This creates an atmosphere of respect and allows independence in choices that don’t put their health at risk. All of these things allow your loved ones to be more free. Having an assistant to drive them around or drive with them is essential in putting your mind at ease.

If these are things that you are looking for, Assisting Hands has compassionate, professional caregivers that are ready to work with you to create a supportive environment where you can flourish. We know that when possible, home is the best place to be!
