Eric Rohr, the owner of Assisting Hands Richmond, about the award:
1. Tell us about “RTD The Best” competition and what it means to you to win this award?
The Richmond Times Dispatch (“RTD”) “The Best” contest is an annual competition that is hosted by the RTD, the main local newspaper. The competition runs across almost every conceivable business category (e.g. restaurants, law firms, barbers, clothing stores, etc.,) where the RTD asks the greater Richmond area to cast their votes for their favorite or “Best” in each category. Since Assisting Hands Home Care Richmond was just getting started in 2019 and did not participate in the 2019 contest (no one knew who we were) the 2020 contest was the first year we participated. Over the past year the entire Assisting Hands Richmond team has worked hard to establish an excellent reputation with our employees, clients and referral partners. Being a “finalist” in 2020 (we finished 2nd out of almost 100 home care agencies in the Richmond area) means so much to the Assisting Hands Richmond team as an independent validation of all of our hard work.
2. What was hard? What was fun? What made you proud?
Starting a business from nothing in a very competitive space (Home Care) has been extremely difficult but at the same time a lot of fun. We are using the constant stream of challenges (and setbacks) as motivation to move forward. Every time you make that special connection with an employee, client or referral partner you feel great about what you are doing, especially when you know you helped someone by making their life better. At Assisting Hands Richmond we have a set of Shared Values: Kindness, Compassion, Integrity, Creativity and Accountability. These Shared Values are at the core of everything we do and is the reason that I started Assisting Hands Richmond in the first place. What makes me so proud is that the Assisting Hands Richmond team was voted “The Best” by staying focused and true to the Shared Values of the Company.
3. What would you do with the prize?
There is no physical “prize” for being “The Best” but there is a lot of recognition and candidly it is the recognition that makes us feel so great at Assisting Hands Richmond. It motivates us to continue to live our Shared Values and be “The Best” at the same time.
4. Where do you see your business in 2 years?
We want to continue to grow so that we can add more and more individuals to the Assisting Hands Richmond team so that we can all help each other become better at whatever we want to do. I firmly believe that if we are true to our Shared Values we will continue to grow and continue to be “The Best”.
