Assisting Hands Richmond – Employee Bios / Stories

Eric Rohr – Owner

Eric Rohr

Eric Rohr

My decision to get into the Home Care business was based on two primary drivers;  I had worked for the last decade in the reverse mortgage industry and was very familiar with the demographic trends of the aging population along with desire of individuals to age in place and second and most importantly I believe in the Shared Values: Kindness, Compassion, Integrity, Creativity and Accountability that aligned with the services that would be provided to the clients in their homes.  Every client deserves Kindness and Compassion in how we treat them and their family, they expect that we have Integrity as we deal with their private and personal situations in the sanctity of their home, we need to utilize Creativity as we come up with solutions to support their needs and the client needs to know that we are Accountable to deliver upon the promises we have made to them. The next decision I made was that I wanted to align my Home Care business with a strong partner that had the expertise, reputation and most importantly the same value system that I had developed.  I found that partner in Assisting Hands® Home Care.  Assisting Hands® is a recognized leader in the Home Care field and has created a value driven culture that has a reputation of delivering best in class services to its clients throughout the United States.

With the solid foundation of Our Shared Values and a strong partnership with Assisting Hands® I am excited to be building a company that delivers exceptional services to our clients and provides a work environment that allows employees to create new opportunities for themselves and their families.  I am excited to be the owner of Assisting Hands Richmond and look forward to delivering Our Shared Values to everyone we come in contact with.

I have worked in the Health Care field, in some capacity all of my adult life. Shortly after graduating from Duke University with a degree in Public Health Administration, I was placed in a temporary role as the Administrative Manager of the Emergency Department at NC Memorial Hospital, which is now the flagship hospital for the UNC Healthcare System. After 6 months in the Emergency Department, I was given an opportunity to work with the Hospital Administrators to design and then lead the team of physicians and nurses as the Administrative Manager of the Outpatient Medical Clinics. I served in this role over 15 years.

I eventually left UNC to accept an opportunity with Nurse Finders, Inc establishing medical staffing branches throughout the southeast, eventually landing in Washington, DC as the Regional VP of Human Resources focusing on specialty nurse staffing for the Med Star Hospital network and The Armed Forces Retirement Home. After many years of the daily commute between Richmond and Washington, I made the decision to return home and focus my efforts on making a difference in the lives of fellow Richmonders at Symphony Manor of Richmond, an Assisted Living Community in the West End.

As the Interim Executive Director at Symphony Manor, I was introduced to Home Care/Personal Care and was able to see first hand how Home Care could enhance the quality of care and Life that my residents received.

Realizing that most people prefer to “Age in Place” versus moving into Assisted Living communities, in January, 2019 I made the decision to look at other areas of healthcare where my knowledge and passion for helping others could be better utilized and I could continue with my educational path.  Then I met Eric Rohr who changed my destiny. He introduced me to Assisting Hands Home Care, a start-up operation in Richmond that has offered me the chance to do all of the things I love, rolled into one job. With Eric at the helm, we have laid the foundation for a company that promotes Integrity, Compassion and Kindness for those we serve, Creativity to provide value added solutions, and Accountability to all. Working with Eric and Assisting Hands has given me the strength and courage to always move forward and to be able to assist our clients with their desires to remain at home Safe and Happy.
