Activities of Daily Living (ADLs)
The common self-care tasks that people perform on a daily basis are known as activities of daily living (ADLs). It is important for people to be able to complete these tasks to maintain their well-being and independence. ADLs include personal hygiene like bathing, restroom use, eating, getting dressed, walking, etc.
Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADLs)
Activities that are secondary to ADLs but still necessary to perform to live an independent life are known as Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADLs). The ability to do IADLs is used to evaluate those in the early stages of diseases or chronic conditions to determine their ability to effectively care for themselves.
