On May 19, 2026, Richard Ueberfluss<\/a> of Assisting Hands Home Care had the opportunity to provide a continuing education presentation on Parkinson\u2019s disease at Southlake Methodist Hospital in Merrillville, Indiana.<\/p>\n

The noon CEU program brought together members of the hospital\u2019s Social Services and Case Management team for an educational discussion focused on Parkinson\u2019s disease and the challenges individuals and families may experience as the condition progresses.<\/p>\n

Supporting the Professionals Who Help Families Navigate Care<\/h2>\n

Social workers and case managers play an important role in helping patients and families understand their options as they transition from the hospital to the next stage of care.<\/p>\n

For individuals living with Parkinson\u2019s disease, those conversations can involve changing mobility needs, assistance with everyday activities, home safety, caregiver support, and planning for additional help after returning home.<\/p>\n

Educational programs like this CEU give healthcare professionals an opportunity to strengthen their understanding of the challenges families may face and the types of support that may be available outside of the hospital.<\/p>\n

Sharing Experience in Parkinson\u2019s Disease and Home Care<\/h2>\n

Richard Ueberfluss, PT, MBA, brings a background in physical therapy, hospital administration, and home care to his work with seniors and families.<\/p>\n

During the presentation, he was able to share his professional experience with the Southlake Methodist Hospital team while discussing considerations that can affect people living with Parkinson\u2019s disease and those supporting them.<\/p>\n

These conversations are especially valuable because Parkinson\u2019s can affect much more than movement. As a person’s needs change, families may find that everyday activities such as getting dressed, preparing meals, moving safely around the home, or maintaining a regular routine require additional assistance.<\/p>\n

Returning home following a hospitalization can be an important transition for an older adult or someone managing a chronic condition.<\/p>\n
