Assisting Hands held our latest Lunch and Learn session last weekend. Vanessa (owner and Administrator of Assisting Hands) is a CPR trainer and brought in her family of dummies for us to practice on. We reviewed CPR and emergency procedures, practiced on adult, child, and infant dummies, and had way too much pizza for lunch. The most surprising thing for our caregivers was how exhausting it can be to perform CPR properly. At Assisting Hands, we require all our caregivers to be CPR certified. It’s a great idea for EVERYONE to be certified (you can do it online at https://www.nationalcprfoundation.com/) to be prepared for emergencies. It can be fun, too! We discussed CPR playlists – if you really don’t like the traditional “Stayin’ Alive” as your metronome, there are plenty of other songs, old and new, that have the right rhythm to help save a life.
For May’s Lunch and Learn, we are planning on having a representative of one of our hospice partners come in to discuss the differences between hospice and palliative care. Stay tuned for more information!
