Combating Senior Loneliness with Home Care

May 14, 2025psutton

About 43% of seniors report feeling lonely.  This can lead to depression, cognitive decline, and even increased mortality – it’s a serious problem!  Luckily, it’s something Assisting Hands Broomfield can help with.

Our caregivers certainly help with a great deal around the home, from light housekeeping to personal care to medication reminders.  But they are also forming bonds with their clients and really connecting.  We try to match caregivers with clients carefully.  We don’t just send somebody in because they’re a warm body.  Assisting Hands considers skills, personality, age, and life experiences when introducing a caregiver to a client.

This bond allows our people to engage in meaningful conversations, not just idle chatter.  We have helped clients reconnect with family and friends thanks to the strong relationships we have built.  And by knowing each client’s personality, we can spot signs of emotional distress early.

If you have a senior in your life, here are some conversation starters you can use to connect with them like we do.  Deep conversations add meaning to the day, and meaning leads to healing.

  • What’s a favorite memory from your childhood?
  • What’s something you’ve always wanted to learn?
  • Who has been the most influential person in your life?
  • What’s the happiest moment you remember?

If you are concerned about a loved one being lonely and disconnecting from life, please contact us here at Assisting Hands.  We can help preserve independence and enhance quality of life!
