As we wrap up Heart Health month, I want to bring up something that I’ve had to work on – cutting sodium from my diet. I have a history of high blood pressure, and salt is a big culprit there.
Excess sodium (salt) in your diet increases your risk of so many things:
- High Blood Pressure
- Stroke
- Heart failure
- Kidney stones
- Osteoporosis
- Headaches
- … and more!
The American diet is unfortunately extremely high in sodium, especially in processed, frozen, and restaurant foods. According to the American Heart Association, 9 out of 10 Americans consume too much sodium.
In order to help, the AHA has published the Eat Less Salt cookbook, with strategies and recipes for moving to a lower-sodium lifestyle. You can order the book here.
Home Care can help! We help prepare meals for many of our clients, and our caregivers are trained and experienced in creating lower-sodium foods. Call us today at 720-780-7755 for a free consultation.
