Thanks to advances in medicine, most people survive a stroke.\u00a0 Stroke survivors do face challenges when coming home, but most can return and resume their activities.\u00a0 We have a client in Thornton that recently returned home after a stroke.\u00a0 We are helping her around the house as she gets stronger and continues her recovery.<\/p>\n

Many stroke survivors are discharged from the hospital sooner than they or their families would like.\u00a0 That is an unfortunate side effect of our health insurance system.\u00a0 Home care from Assisting Hands can help bridge the gap and ensure that clients can successfully recover and thrive in their own homes.<\/p>\n

Assisting Hands has put together a checklist of factors to consider before discharging a stroke patient home.\u00a0 We share this with hospitals and other health care providers in the North Metro Denver area, but it\u2019s good for families to see as well.\u00a0 If a loved one has suffered a stroke, here are some things to think about:<\/p>\n

  • Can they bathe and dress themselves safely?<\/li>\n
  • Can they cook and feed themselves?<\/li>\n
  • Can they keep up with the house cleaning and maintenance?<\/li>\n
  • Can they move around without risk of falling?<\/li>\n
  • Do they understand my medication regime and discharge instructions?<\/li>\n
  • Can they take their medications as prescribed?<\/li>\n
  • Do they have someone available who is willing to help when needed?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
