INTRODUCTION
Millions of American seniors are veterans or the surviving spouses of veterans. As they grow older, they want to enjoy their golden years in the familiar comfort of home, and there’s a little-known Veterans Administration benefit that can help them fund in-home care. The Aid & Attendance benefit provides a higher pension amount—up to $25,525 annually—that can be used by those who qualify to help them remain independent while living at home.
Qualifications for the Aid & Attendance Enhanced Benefit
The Aid & Attendance enhanced benefit is available to veterans and surviving spouses of veterans who meet specific criteria.
It isn’t a requirement that the veteran served overseas or on the field of battle.
The veteran must have received an honorable discharge.
