Caring is Her Business<\/strong><\/p>\n

Terri Robbins is the president and owner of Assisting Hands Houston, which is located in Humble. As a franchisee, she serves clients in Humble, North\u00a0Houston,\u00a0Kingwood,\u00a0Spring,\u00a0Crosby,\u00a0Huffman,\u00a0New Caney,\u00a0Porter\u00a0and\u00a0Splendora.\u00a0 As an Area Representative, Terri leads the team of Houston-area franchisees. <\/span><\/p>\n

Her desire for home health care stems from a dream she and her mother, Claire Gulsby, had of owning and operating a hospice business in Humble.\u00a0 <\/span>Before they could launch the business, her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer.\u00a0<\/span>A stay-at-home mom at the time, Robbins became the primary caregiver for her mother.\u00a0 <\/span>Every day after she dropped off her children at school, she headed to her parents\u2019 home.\u00a0 <\/span>She bathed and dressed her mom, prepared meals and tidied up the house in between housekeeper visits.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you are taking care of someone else, you can forget to take care of yourself,\u201d said Robbins. \u201cAnd when that happens you aren\u2019t good physically or emotionally to care for your loved one.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

When Robbins left to pick up her children from school, her mom was left in the care of her dad, sister-in-law and other family members. This went on for three years.<\/span><\/p>\n

In 1998, Gulsby lost her battle against breast cancer.\u00a0 <\/span>Divorced, with her children in college, Robbins decided to pursue her entrepreneurial dream. Looking to launch her own business \u2014 she assumed in food \u2014 a franchise broker presented Assisting Hands Home Care to her after learning the story of how Terri took care of her mom and their desire to own a hospice business.<\/span><\/p>\n

Robbins took the broker\u2019s advice and began extensive research.\u00a0 <\/span>After many conversations with Assisting Hands\u2019 founder Dr. Gail Silverstein, Robbins traveled to Phoenix and saw first-hand Silverstein\u2019s commitment to patient care.\u00a0 <\/span>Robbins was so impressed with her knowledge of the caregiving and health care industries, she joined the Assisting Hands Home Care family as a franchise owner and area representative in Houston, Texas. In May 2008, she opened her business in Humble to serve north Houston seniors and other residents needing non-medical home health care services.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI am passionate about the difference our caregivers make in the lives of our clients and their families,\u201d said Robbins. \u201cMy team is comprised of professionals who share my passion of serving and enabling individuals to live at home in safety, comfort and dignity.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

With the aging population, many clients are the elderly who wish to stay in their homes, but as Robbins points out, \u201cWhen I do my assessment of the client\u2019s needs, I am not just out to make money. Several times I have told the clients and their families that the person would be better served, in my opinion, in a nursing home.\u201d The people served are not just the elderly \u201cSome of our clients have either long term illnesses or short term needs like assistance from surgery recovery or a broken bone.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

As a franchise owner in Humble and an Area Representative for South Texas, Robbins knows first-hand what is likely to work and what likely doesn’t work. Houston-area franchisees are not only close in proximity to her, Robbins\u00a0also acts as a mentor to them.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
