However, the relationship between psychological distress and diabetes risk tended to be weaker in younger children and older adults.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Although the study does not identify the causes of high blood sugar, there are a few possible mechanisms that may be involved in the effects of stress on seniors&#8217; diabetes. Insufficient sleep can result in emotional strain and lead to increased anxiety. Lack of sleep is associated with elevated blood sugar. Therefore, getting sufficient sleep may help in managing diabetes. But, stress can also interfere with healthy sleep patterns, as poor sleep is a known risk factor for diabetes and depression.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">As long as you&#8217;re able to find ways to reduce stress in your life, you can control your blood sugar. If you have diabetes, your doctor can teach you techniques for managing stress. For example, if you&#8217;re worried about a health-related issue, you may try to change your thinking and reduce your stress levels by exercising regularly. Taking good care of your mind is just as important as taking care of your diabetes.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>6. Depression<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This study examined the effects of stressful life events on elderly people&#8217;s depressive symptoms. 8 out of 11 stressful life events predicted changes in depressive symptoms at follow-up. The number of stressful life events was significantly associated with a change in CES-D depression scores. However, there was no significant relationship between stress and age. The number of stressful events and age were not related to the changes in depressive symptoms.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Physical activity, particularly physical exercise, is important to keep the mind active and the body fit. Exercise also improves mood. Taking brisk walks, swimming, or doing light yard work can help improve mental health and reduce depression. It is important for older adults to avoid social isolation, as loneliness often contributes to depression. To combat loneliness, seniors should keep up social contact with family and friends and try to volunteer. A diet rich in fruits and whole grains should be a part of every meal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Elderly people with depression can benefit from support groups, which are designed to connect those with similar issues.
