There is a high population of seniors in the United States who have served in the armed forces and many of these veterans may be eligible to receive Department of Veteran’s Affairs VA benefits which can be put towards the cost of home care. More seniors are choosing to age in place during their retirement years, but they may require a certain level of care and assistance to do this safely. The VA benefits received by eligible veterans and spouses of veterans can be used to help pay for home care and respite care available to veterans from Assisting Hands Home Care.

At Assisting Hands Home Care, we provide veteran home care and respite care services in Granbury, TX to help eligible veterans and the spouses of veterans who receive VA benefits. We will carefully evaluate the care needs of your loved ones to create a tailored care plan and ensure they get the care they need to live safely at home.

VA Pension with Aid and Attendance Benefits

To receive VA Pension with Aid and Attendance benefits, seniors must apply directly through the VA. Qualified veterans and their spouses may be eligible for up to $2,200 per month, providing essential financial support for home care and respite care expenses.

In order for veterans and spouses of veterans to qualify for VA Pension with Aid and Attendance Benefits, they must meet the following criteria:

  • Age requirement: All applicants must be at least 65 years of age or older.
  • Wartime service: The veterans must have served a minimum of 90 days of active duty, including at least one day during wartime. They must have also received an honorable discharge.
  • Surviving spouses: The spouse must be a widow or widower of a veteran who meets the criteria for wartime service.
  • Assistance requirements: Those applying must require assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs).
  • Asset requirements: Those applying must not have assets that exceed $123,600, without including their home, vehicles, and personal belongings.
  • Monthly income limits: Monthly incomes of those applying must not exceed $3000 for couples, $2600 for single veterans, and $2000 for a surviving spouse.

After benefits are awarded, the VA reserves the right to conduct audits to confirm that recipients still meet the eligibility requirements. Seniors may be required to submit documentation to verify their continued qualification. Failure to comply with these requirements could lead to a suspension or loss of benefits.

VA Home Health Care and Respite Care

Veterans and spouses of veterans who receive VA Pension with Aid and Attendance benefits can use these benefits to help pay for our veteran home care and respite care services:

VA Home Health Aide (HHA)/ Home Health Care Program

We proudly provide dedicated in-home care for veterans and their spouses through our VA Home Health Aide (HHA) program. This comprehensive service allows eligible individuals to access up to 12 hours of care per week, fully covered by VA benefits. To qualify, veterans and spouses must meet specific requirements, such as undergoing an extended geriatric care evaluation by medical professionals, needing assistance with three or more Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), or experiencing significant cognitive impairment.

Our goal is to deliver compassionate and reliable support tailored to the unique needs of those who have served.

VA Respite Care Program

Our Veteran Affairs respite care program offers short-term home care services for veterans and their spouses to cover their unique care needs. Eligibility for participation in this program is established through a comprehensive interdisciplinary assessment, which evaluates the need for assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) as well as the management of significant cognitive challenges.
