Meet the Team

Liam Dunfey

We are honored to lead Assisting Hands of Carlsbad and Oceanside!

Liam has been working in aging services since 2009. He’s served in various leadership roles for two San Diego County non-profit organizations – St. Paul’s Senior Services and Covenant Living at Mount Miguel. He is LeadingAge EMERGE fellow alumnus (2013) and helped co-found the North County Village (2017). He grew up in Boston, graduated from Elmira College (NY), and went to graduate school at the University of Maryland, College Park. Liam and his family live in Carlsbad. In his spare time, he enjoys baseball, basketball, tennis, and reading books.

As we grow our business in North County, we’re dedicated to building a team of caregivers who share our fulfillment of serving seniors and their families.

John Dzida

John is Liam’s cousin and serves as the Chief Financial Officer of Assisting Hands of Carlsbad.  John has worked as a community banker for the last 20 years helping small and medium privately held companies obtain bank loans.  He has completed over $100 million in various transactions.  John has an MBA from the University of San Francisco and a BA from the University of San Diego.  Prior to his work in Banking, John thought he wanted to be a diplomat.    He spent two years as an elementary and junior high school teacher of English in Japan as part of the Japan Exchange and Teaching Program.  While at the University of San Diego he studied abroad extensively in Mexico, Central America and Spain.  His family can trace its roots to Croatia and still has connections to that country as well.  He is married with two children and lives in San Juan Capistrano, CA.

Samina Holland

With over 25 years of dedicated experience in aging services, Samina is a seasoned care manager who has built her career on compassion, expertise, and advocacy for older adults and their families. Her deep understanding of the complex challenges that come with aging has made her a trusted resource in the field of elder care.

Throughout her career, Samina has worked across a variety of settings, including home care, assisted living, and long-term care facilities. Her holistic approach focuses on improving quality of life, ensuring safety, and preserving dignity for those she serves. She excels at developing personalized care plans, coordinating services, and guiding families through critical decisions with empathy and clarity.

As a care manager, Samina combines clinical knowledge with a personal touch, offering comprehensive support that spans medical coordination, caregiver education, and emotional support. Her clients appreciate her problem-solving skills, calm demeanor, and unwavering commitment to enhancing the well-being of older adults.

Samina’s longevity in the field is a testament to her passion and her belief in person-centered care. She continues to be a strong advocate for aging with grace, autonomy, and respect.

Outside of her professional life, Samina finds joy in spending time with her family, swimming, and traveling. These personal passions help her recharge and bring balance to her life, enriching the care and presence she offers to those she serves.

Jenna Hierro

Jenna Hierro is a Staffing Assistant with over six years of experience in the home health care field. She holds both a BA and MA in Psychology, which have provided her with a strong foundation in mental and behavioral health. In her role, she provides after‑hours support to clients and staff, ensuring smooth operations when the office is closed. Jenna’s communication skills and adaptability make her a reliable problem solver and team member. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family, enjoying nature and cooking. Jenna is dedicated to delivering compassionate, dependable care that reflects the core values of Assisting Hands.

Vanessa Herrera

Vanessa brings over 15 years of experience caring for seniors, along with 4 years of care coordination focused on improving quality of life and support for older adults. Known for her compassionate approach, she continues to lead with dedication, organization, and a passion for helping others

She enjoys hiking, reading, and spending quality time with family, and relaxing with her dog, Minnie.

Kim Holmes

Kim Holmes serves as the Director of Business Development for Assisting Hands Home Care, where she is dedicated to building trusted relationships with healthcare professionals, community organizations, and families throughout North San Diego County. With more than 20 years of experience in business development, sales, and marketing, Kim is passionate about connecting individuals with compassionate, high-quality in-home care services that help seniors and adults maintain their independence and quality of life.

Throughout her career, Kim has built a reputation for strategic networking, community engagement, and creating meaningful partnerships that drive growth. Her background includes leadership roles in real estate, property management, and business development. Kim is an active member of several professional organizations and is committed to serving her community through volunteerism, industry involvement, and fostering relationships that make a positive impact. She believes that exceptional care begins with meaningful connections and is honored to represent the mission and values of Assisting Hands Home Care.

Kim enjoys spending time with friends, exercising, reading and cooking.  She is owned by her dog Honey.

Ricardo Guerrero

Ricardo brings 8 years of experience in the caregiving industry with a background as a Behavior Technician working with individuals with special needs. He works with an age span of 10 – 80+. Being a USMC veteran, Ricardo is respectful and knows how to build structure and comfort with his clients.

Besides providing caregiving, Ricardo is also the Community Liaison for Assisting Hands and our local Skilled Nursing Facilities and interacts with local agencies like the VA and Military Affairs Committee in Carlsbad.

In his free time he enjoys exercising,  being outdoors, and spending time with friends and his little Yorkie.
