Most families keep photo albums; a lovely way to capture events and memories for posterity. However, there are three problems with photo albums: First, they are static. There is no context or “story” behind the photo. Second, there is usually just one of them, so they are difficult to share. And lastly, they can be lost or damaged by water, fire or time. How can these memories be brought to life in a more meaningful and permanent way?
Recording an oral history (sometimes referred to as a “Legacy Video”) allows family members to hear these precious stories with the richness, personality and humor that is missed in a photograph. Recordings can even be simply audio if a subject is reluctant to be recorded on camera. They can be as short as a 5-minute story such as how someone met the love of their life. Or they can be long-form documentaries that chart time and life events through decades.
