Caregivers in St. Pete Beach FL: 3 Relaxing Activities for Caregivers

Family caregivers for older adults have a lot on their plate. Many of them spend several hours a week doing things for their aging relative on top of holding down jobs and caring for children. The emotions and physical demands that come up in caregiving cause caregiver stress. Caregiver stress can leave you feeling overwhelmed and frustrated. Looking after your own needs and taking time out to enjoy relaxing activities. Need some ideas for ways to relax? Here are 3 relaxing and fun activities for you to try during your downtime.

#1 Take the Dog for a Walk

Fresh air, sunshine, and an adorably happy dog. That’s a combination sure to make you smile and feel better almost instantly. In fact, science shows that both the exercise of walking and spending time with a pet are excellent stress busters. In addition, exercising your dog can help them to be better behaved. They will have worked off their excess energy in a constructive way instead of by chewing up your favorite shoes. And, wouldn’t that help relieve some of the stress in your life, too?

Bonus Tip: Caregivers who don’t have dogs can volunteer as dog walkers at their local animal shelter.

#2 See a Movie

Losing yourself in a movie for a couple of hours will let you forget your worries for a while. Caregivers who prefer movies at home can cuddle up on the couch with a soft blanket, their favorite snack, and someone they love to make the experience even more relaxing. But, going to a movie theater can feel like a special occasion, so treat yourself to the latest blockbuster on the big screen once in a while!

Bonus Tip: Many theaters have one day a week that offers movie tickets at a lower price regardless of the time of day. Check the website for a theater near you to see if they offer any deals.

#3 Take a Yoga Class

Yoga has been scientifically proven to reduce stress. Although you can practice yoga right at home, consider taking a class. Yoga studios are calm, quiet places without distraction, so you can focus on your movements and breathing. At home, you may be tempted to get up and do some dishes or jot down a thought that pops into your head. Plus, you can invite a friend to go to yoga with you and then spend time chatting over a cup of coffee afterward.

Bonus Tip: Some yoga studios offer package deals where classes are cheaper if you purchase several at a time. Some even have classes that allow you to pay what you can afford.
