Media Consumption Tips Regarding The Pandemic

May 6, 2020Daniela Momtcheva

Let’s face it, COVID-19 has us all stressed out. It is an unprecedented time and with that comes a lot of beliefs, hypotheses, and even political debates regarding covid-19 in the media and on social media platforms. Not only that but it is also an evolving disease that has new developments daily on what we should and should not be doing. Finding a balance between what is true and untrue can be a challenge.

If you are finding yourself anxious from the surge of information on COVID-19, here are some tips on media consumption from Dr. Carole Lieberman, a psychiatrist who studies the media’s impact on mental health:

  • Format matters: Reading or listening to the news can be less stressful than watching it.
  • Talk about it: Talking with friends and family about the news you see and hear can help you develop deeper understanding and meaning.
  • Keep it Simple: Seek “non-sensationalized” news sources.
  • Time it right: it is recommended to consume news prior to 6 PM so that you have ample time to process it before going to sleep.

Spend Time with a Caregiver

One of the best ways to get away from it all is to spend time with a caregiver. They can provide senior companionship to reduce anxiety, stress and isolation during the pandemic. Give us a call at (847) 448-0844 to schedule a free consultation.
