Many family members reach out to Assisting Hands because they’re concerned about a family member being alone or maybe you are reaching out for yourself.
Companion Care

Whether it’s sorting mail, playing games to keep their mind engaged and sharp, a ride to the hairdresser or grocery store, or accompaniment at a doctor’s office, having someone to share a conversation and a cup of coffee with can improve our overall physical and emotional wellbeing. In fact, helper visits are the highlight of the day for many of our clients. Companion caregivers can provide great peace of mind for families with loved ones experiencing mild cognitive decline. By having a go-to companion, your loved one can feel independent and doesn’t have to ask for a ride every time they need something. Our companions are also great conversationalists, and it’s our hope that they tackle not only the tasks on a list but engage them in interesting activities, provide mental stimulation, add diversity to their days — and value to their lives.
Consider all the ways a companion would enhance your loved one’s day! Our caregivers can:
- Apply makeup
- Give a hand massage
- Make the bed with clean sheets
- Do puzzles and chat
- Serve a fresh pot of coffee and clean up (make sure the client is safe!)
- Attend an exercise class together
- Buy and care for new plants for the patio
- Cook together
- Do a word search
- Get their nails done
- Drop off with friends to enjoy a lunch date

Remember, we are skilled at finding just the right match, and our goal is to help you to be happy and comfortable so we’ll work with you until we get it just right!
Communicating with Your Caregiver We know that families want to stay up-to-date on their loved ones progress or simply hear about their day. Any communication from the caregiver to the family through our online Family Room online portal. Caregivers take general notes in a mobile app specially designed for home care workers. They notate the tasks they completed like bathing, meals, laundry, and so forth. They are also instructed to report any accidents, injuries, medication errors, etc. to the agency via phone call at any time of day or night. The agency representative serves as the concierge, and they’ll ensure you receive all updates promptly.
