Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care in Johns Creek, GA

When a beloved family member is diagnosed with Alzheimer’s or dementia, life changes in an instant. The confusion, emotional distress, and daily responsibilities can be overwhelming. At Assisting Hands Home Care, we provide professional, compassionate in-home care services in Johns Creek, GA, tailored to help seniors who suffer from memory loss along with their caregivers.

Our objective is simple: to allow your loved one to live safely, comfortably, and with dignity in the comfort of his or her own home.

What is Alzheimer’s and Dementia?

Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia, which affects memory, thinking, and behavior. Other types of dementia include vascular dementia, Lewy body dementia, and frontotemporal dementia. Each has a distinct treatment and care plan.

As the disease progresses, your loved one may:

  • Forget familiar names, faces, or routines
  • Become disoriented in time or place
  • Struggle with language or communication
  • Show changes in mood, personality, or behavior
  • Need help with everyday tasks

Recognizing these symptoms in their early stages and having care from professionals ready can be a huge quality-of-life difference-maker.

Early Signs of Dementia in Seniors

If you suspect your mom, dad, or older parent may have symptoms of memory loss, being aware of what to do will enable you to act early. Dementia develops gradually, and some signs can be disguised as normal aging. Listen to your instincts if something seems off.

Early warning signs include:

  • Repeating the same questions or stories
  • Misplacing items in unusual places (e.g., keys in the fridge)
  • Difficulty managing finances or remembering appointments
  • Trouble following conversations or finding the right words
  • Getting lost in familiar places
  • Withdrawing from hobbies or social activities
  • Mood swings, confusion, or irritability

If the parent is showing some or all of these signs, it’s probably time to arrange for a formal memory evaluation and to look into care that offers safety, support, and peace of mind.

In-Home vs. Facility-Based Memory Care

When considering memory care options, many families are unsure whether in-home care or facility-based care is the right choice. At Assisting Hands, we help you evaluate your loved one’s unique needs, preferences, and budget to make the best decision.

In-Home Memory Care:

  • One-on-one caregiver attention
  • Personalized routines and familiar surroundings
  • Greater comfort, independence, and reduced stress
  • Flexible scheduling (hourly, overnight, or 24/7 care)

Facility-Based Memory Care:

  • 24/7 staffed community with structured programs
  • Opportunities for socializing with peers
  • Often includes room, board, and activities
  • Higher cost and less flexibility

In-home care is ideal for seniors who prefer to age in place and need personalized, daily support. Facility care may be appropriate when advanced medical supervision or behavioral interventions are required.

Our Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care Plan

At Assisting Hands Home Care, we understand that caring for someone with Alzheimer’s or dementia requires patience, structure, and a deeply personal approach. That’s why we create care plans designed around your loved one’s unique needs, providing safety, comfort, and meaningful engagement at home.

Here’s what you can expect from our Alzheimer’s and dementia care services:

✅ Companionship & Mental Engagement

Social interaction is key to preserving memory and boosting morale. Our caregivers build real connections with your loved one through friendly conversation, storytelling, reminiscing, and engaging activities based on their personal interests. This consistent companionship can ease anxiety and help slow cognitive decline.

✅ Personal Care & Daily Assistance

As dementia progresses, many seniors need help with daily routines. At Assisting Hands Home Care, we provide respectful, hands-on support with bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, incontinence care, and mobility. Every aspect of our care is delivered with patience and dignity, ensuring your loved one feels safe, clean, and comfortable each day.

✅ 24-Hour Alzheimer’s Care

Some families need around-the-clock support. With our 24-hour home care, caregivers rotate shifts to ensure constant supervision—day and night. This service offers complete peace of mind, especially for those in the later stages of dementia who may need frequent assistance or monitoring.

✅ Medication Reminders

Seniors with memory loss may forget or skip essential medications. Our caregivers provide gentle reminders and supervision to help keep your loved one on schedule—avoiding missed doses and unnecessary complications.

✅ Live-In Care

For seniors who prefer to remain at home while receiving full-time care, live-in care offers a great solution. One of our trusted caregivers will reside in your loved one’s home, providing continuous support, companionship, and help with all daily tasks—while preserving the comfort and routine of their own space.

We used Assisting Hands of Forsyth and North Fulton to help care for my Father and I cannot say enough good things about the staff and management team. They were in our home 24 / 7 for a month and the care they provided was Five Star. They assisted with all the daily living tasks from bathing, dressing, and restroom needs as well as moving Dad from a hospital bed to a chair and assisted with feeding. They showed respect and concern, they were committed to their job 100%. Sadly, my Father passed but the team was right there with us showing love, care and support for our entire family...They actually felt like family. I highly recommend them for any personal care needs people have for their loved ones!
