Wandering is one of the scariest behaviors associated with dementia. Someone with the disease may suddenly leave the home and start walking (or worse, driving) and not know how to get back.
According to the Alzheimer’s Association “Six in 10 people living with dementia will wander at least once; many do so repeatedly.” At Assisting Hands Broomfield, we have encountered a number of clients with this behavior.
Preparation is key in preventing wandering. With that in mind, we put together the information sheet below. There are things that families can do to prepare for and prevent wandering, and the time to start doing them starts as soon as a diagnosis is made.
If you are concerned about a loved one, please contact Assisting Hands for a free consultation. Wandering is dangerous, but it isn’t something families need to face alone.
