Balancing Care and Independence

June 12, 2024psutton

Part of the Assisting Hands Mission Statement reads, “Assist our clients to achieve their maximum potential for independence and wellbeing.” Independence is woven into the fabric of who we are as a company. What does that mean for our clients?
Many of our clients can perform most of their daily tasks without assistance. Assisting Hands is there for those few things that maybe don’t come as naturally at this point in life. It’s critical that our clients are involved in planning their own care so that our caregivers don’t overstep. Aging with dignity is everyone’s right, and maintaining independence as much as possible supports that goal.
Speaking of goals, we ask every client (and family, where appropriate) about their goals of care with Assisting Hands. Those goals are transcribed into a prominent place in the care plan, so our caregivers always keep them in mind. We may be there to help with meal preparation or shower assistance, but the client’s goals tell us the overall story and guide our actions.
Our mission to customize care for every client is why we take the time to really get to know them and their family, and why we don’t assume that everyone needs the same schedule. We have clients we see for just two hours a week, and others that we see twice a day every day.
As we approach our country’s Independence Day, think about the seniors in your life and let Assisting Hands help you maintain their independence!
