Main Types Of Senior Care Services In Houston

8 Types Of Home Care Services

There are multiple types of home care services that patients can receive. The patient’s specific situation often determines the kind of homecare service they receive. Read on to learn about the different home care services you can get for your loved one.

1. Home Health Aides

Consider hiring a home health aide when everyday tasks are too much to handle. Home aides are trained professionals who can avail themselves daily to assist your loved one with taking a walk, eating, bathing, and getting out of bed. Typically, a professional nurse will monitor this form of care as home aides are not certified to conduct medical care.

2. Transportation

Most, if not all, elderly patients cannot take themselves to and from a doctor’s appointment. It could be because they do not feel comfortable driving or their health is too poor they cannot drive a car. Whatever the case, there are multiple options available, for instance, at-home transportation services. With this service, you can relax knowing your loved one will be picked up from the house, be driven to their doctor’s appointment, and returned home safely.

3. At-Home Dietary Support

As one grows older, they may require specific dietary restrictions. These have to be monitored to ensure they get proper nutrition to thrive. You can have a dietician come to the house, review their diet, and offer expert guidance.

4. Companionship Services

Sometimes, patients may not require special medical care, but they may still need home care services. Essentially, companionship services offer supervision and comfort to individuals who are home alone for an extended period or those that are lonely. Besides providing them companionship, the service may include light housekeeping duties and cooking basic meals.

5. Social Services

In specific instances, a social services caseworker may be in charge of handling a patient’s welfare. These professional services are performed at home to suit a patient’s needs. The social services case manager can help your loved one receive specific resources and benefits or counseling.

6. Occupational & Physical Therapy

Some patients may need extra help due to illness, injuries, or old age to relearn specific motor skills. Range of motion and impaired speech can significantly benefit from the multiple unique therapies available. A physical therapist can visit the patient at home to perform speech, occupational, or physical therapy techniques with in-home treatment.

7. Nursing Care

Nursing assistants and registered nurses often issue the most common type of at-home healthcare. Typically, a doctor directs the caregiver assigned to a patient to ensure the treatment’s fluidity and stability. Once the physician develops and approves the treatment plan, the nurse will attend to the patient’s needs in the comfort of their home.

Nurses are qualified to handle different kinds of health support, including pain management, medication administration, IV therapy, ostomy care, and wound dressing.

8. At-Home Physician Care

At-home doctor visits are available to patients who need a higher level of medical care. At-home physician care typically involves frequent house calls from a licensed physician. The appointment can be for various reasons, including treating an injury or an illness or diagnosing a patient. The bottom line is it ensures your loved one receives the utmost specialized care.
