Senior Care In Houston: The Top 6 Movies Seniors Love To Watch For A Good Time

The following are some of the top movies that seniors will enjoy. Watching these films can be a great way for the elderly to relax while in senior care in Houston. We have gathered a list of the most popular and top-rated movies that seniors love to watch. We hope you enjoy the list and think about watching some of the following classics.

1. Secondhand Lions (2003)

A flighty mother drops off her shy teenage son named Walter to live on a Texas ranch with his two great uncles. Although they never had their own children, these two colored men let Walter stay with them, and since they don’t have a television or phone, they entertain him by telling stories about their Foreign Legion adventures. They are such fantastical stories that it is difficult for Walter to know if they are true or not. Over time, he starts to love the two elderly adventures. However, he has difficult decisions to make when his mother goes after their rumored fortune.

2. The Bucket List (2007)

In this movie, the only thing two men have in common is their terminal illnesses. The two of them make the decision to escape from the cancer ward and go off to do all of the things in life that they have wanted to before dying. After a couple of false starts, the blue-collar mechanic and billionaire become unlikely friends, and along the way find emotional healing and learn life lessons. This is a very touching and funny story about opening yourself up to friendship and making the most out of your life. Check out AHH for more information on senior care in Houston.

3. Calendar Girls (2003)

This movie is based on a true story, where 11 high society British women pose in the nude for the yearly Women’s Institute calendar that is a fundraiser for their local hospital. It is a lighthearted story that centers around not taking yourself too seriously, and enjoying laughter in life. In the calendar each woman is shown posing in a different task that members of the Women’s Institute are taught, like playing the piano, planting flowers, knitting or making bread rolls.

4. Gran Torino (2008)

Walt Kowalski, a Korean War veteran, and rough-edged, tough widow, refuses to change along with the world he is surrounded by. He has a charge time getting along with the community and his family and has a lot of prejudices. When a young Hmong teenager named Thao, who is a neighbor of Kowalski’s is being pressured by a local gang and attempts to steal his beloved 1972 Gran Torino, Walter attempts to reform him. He is soon unwilling drawn into Thao’s family life and starts taking steps to make sure that local gangs do not harm him.

5. Cocoon (1985)

Several senior citizens trespass to swim in the pool next door at the house located next to their senior living community. They discover that they have been restored with youthful vigor and energy. Soon they find out that alien pods are being stored in the pool, and being deposited by intergalactic visitors who plan to come back later to retrieve them. The seniors offer their assistance to the aliens so that they can return to their cocoons on their home planet, and they offered something very magnificent as a reward.

6. Driving Miss Daisy (1989)

When a spunky and wealthy Jewish widow backs her car into the neighbor’s yard during the 1950’s she is not allowed to drive any longer. Her son absolutely insists on hiring her a driver, and he is an African American man. Miss Daisy is very resistant at first to any change and refuses to allow the chauffeur to take her anywhere. However, the natural good graces of Hoke win her over eventually, and the two start to develop a kind of friendship slowly.
